Tim and Jane's walk from Up Marden Church. SU795 142. About 6.1/2 miles (or 5.5 miles, see below), lunch in the Hare and Hounds, Stoughton. Generally hilly but nothing too steep.
For those of you who may feel they've lost their walking legs recently there is a shorter morning section of this walk of about 2.7 miles to Stoughton. Rest instead for half an hour inside St Michael's Church. Totally unspoilt for hundreds of years, listed in the 60 best English Churches by the National Churches Trust.
Simon Jenkins wrote "But the Downland churches are different. They weave not neither do they spin, yet there is not a cathedral in England that has their power to move the spirit. ------- The Downland churches have a stronger magic. The unbeliever departs them ill at ease."
