Kate and Nigel's walk is from Ebernoe Holy Trinity Church Postcode GU28 9LD. The walk is about 5 miles, 2 stiles, a couple of muddy awkward stretches but mostly good going. Plenty of flowers, butterflies and birds waiting to be identified. Lunch at the Stag Inn. OS map ref for Ebernoe Church is SU975 278. Otherwise travel about 3 miles north of Petworth on the A283 towards Northchapel and take the turning on the right signposted Ebernoe into Streel's Lane. Go 1.5 miles through cricket ground, then after telephone box on left turn right down track signed, on the left, to the church ( the centre of the postcode area is actually down a lane just short of the telephone box, so carry on Streel's Lane for another 100 yards for the correct turning).
This is a 7 mile walk in total, walking 5 miles before lunch at The White Hart in Stopham, and 2 easy miles after lunch. It is muddy in places, especially round the bridge across the river, but is generally fairly easy walking with one or two inclines. Parking is not very easy, but you are welcome to follow Isabel from the North Street car park in Midhurst or instructions are as follows ---- Drive to Pulborough on the A283. At the first roundabout turn left. At the next roundabout turn left on the A29 to London. Very shortly after, take a small left hand turning sign posted "To the Churches". Pass St Mary's Church on the left and the Catholic church on the right. Carry straight on up Coombelands Lane. Pass the Coombelands Racing Stables. Carry straight on, ignoring a turning on the right, until you come to one or two houses. Pythingdean is on the left and Oaklands Farm is on the right. Parking is on the left. NB The grid reference is 041: 205 CAN YOU PLEASE LET ISABEL KNOW IF YOU HOPE TO DO THIS WALK AS WE HAVE TO CHOOSE OUR MEALS BEFOREHAND IF THERE ARE OVER 10 OF US.
Isabel will be leading a walk which will take in Older Hill and Titty Hill. There is a possible short cut for those not wanting to climb to the top. Lunch in the Royal Oak in Midhurst. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL MEET IN THE GRANGE CAR PARK, POND END.
Den's walk will be from Hambledon village, parking by the wall, with lunch at The Bat and Ball. If you intend going straight to Hambledon, please contact Den for exact location.
